Responsibilities

FDD's Center on Cyber and Technology Innovation (CCTI) is seeking part-time or full-time interns. Interns will work closely with CCTI director Annie Fixler, senior policy analyst Jiwon Ma, and CCTI Senior Director RADM (ret) Mark Montgomery to conduct research on cyber capabilities and intentions of U.S. adversaries and on policy and technological solutions to these challenges. 
Qualified interns will have coursework in international relations, national security policy, computer science, and/or a relevant STEM field of study. Qualified interns will have an interest in the intersection between cyber, national security, and economic power, as well as the ability to work alone and as a member of a team. An understanding of computer networking, cybersecurity best practices, writing for government audiences, and previous research on cyber-related topics is a plus. Experience on Capitol Hill is helpful, but certainly not required. Standout candidates are responsive, self-motivated, and able to learn and work quickly. What We’re Looking For:

Qualifications:

<li>Prior experience and knowledge of boiler/water analysis preferred.</li>
<li>Previous work experience in a water treatment plant and knowledge and experience in the production of deionized water are also preferred.</li>
<li>Experience and competency in the use, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation/equipment, as well as knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques, are desirable.</li>
<li>Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.</li>

Level 1: AS degree in Chemistry or other field of science with a MINIMUM of 12 semester hours in Chemistry required. <li>Additionally, the technician ensures compliance with governmental environmental regulations regarding water discharges and compiles, evaluates, and reports statistical data pertaining to plant performance and productivity.</li>
<li>Technicians operate and maintain water treatment plants for the production of demineralized and service water and assist in maintaining an onsite sewage treatment plant.</li>
<li>They perform analytical testing of boiler water chemistry and scrubber absorber chemistry.</li>
<li>Responsibilities include the calibration and maintenance of equipment related to these areas and performing minor maintenance activities such as lubrication.</li>
<li>Technicians are also required to perform Hazmat team member duties, including respirator qualification, to unload hazardous liquid and gaseous chemicals.</li>

Key Responsibilities:

<li>Tracking inventory, prioritizing orders, maintaining lab equipment and documenting the processes during each chemical test</li>
<li>Following environmental regulations and reviewing newly published safety protocols from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFRA)</li>
<li>Preparing chemical solutions, completing chemical orders and storing solutions safely according to different temperature requirements</li>
<li>Conducting lab tests to ensure that chemicals are safe to use and recording and troubleshooting issues for further assessment</li>
<li>Compiling and interpreting lab test results and correcting potential anomalies in results</li>
<li>Monitoring chemical processes and resolving production issues by meeting with the appropriate personnel</li>
<li>Producing and retrieving graphical results to share with lab managers or more senior personnel</li>
<li>Sterilizing work surfaces and equipment before using them and replacing worn or damaged equipment as needed</li>
<li>Training new technicians on different chemical processes and periodically updating their knowledge of chemical technology</li>

Working Hours:
