Position Overview
The Residential Treatment Specialist is responsible for the daily direct care and supervision of children in residence suffering from childhood trauma with resulting behavioral health issues.
The Residential Treatment Specialist ensures children's basic life, educational and emotional needs are provided.
He or she acts as a role model and mentor for the residents, demonstrating appropriate social and relationship building skills using a trauma informed care model called Sanctuary using the 7 Commitments of the Sanctuary Model -open communication, democracy, non-violence, social learning, social responsibility, growth and change.
CHNK Behavioral Health is the only agency in Kentucky currently certified by the Sanctuary Institute to use this model, and is also the first agency in Kentucky to receive All Children All Families Innovator status from the Human Rights Campaign in LGBTQ competencies.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Level 1
1. A High School diploma is required. Bachelor's degree in a human service field preferred. 2. Must be 19 years of age or older, and have one year demonstrated experience with youth. JOB DUTIES
Level 1 &amp; 2
o Complete Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training.
o Complete the Therapeutic Individualized Phases to Success (TIPS) training
o Be alert and respond therapeutically to aggressive behavior exhibited by residents, including diversion into other activities, intensive teaching, physical assist or other disciplinary/control procedures as outlined in the policy.
o Teach the principals of the Therapeutic Individualized Phases to Success (TIPS) and maintain all needed points and other documentations.
o Provide direct care supervision of children during all aspects of the daily routine, monitor school progress, assist with homework/tutoring, and provide supervision for special events.

The Direct Support Professional (DSP} is the primary point of service direct care worker responsible to support adults with disabilities of all ages to lead self-directed lives and contribute to their communities. The DSP is responsible to assure that quality supports and consistent services are provided to people with disabilities in their homes and communities. General responsibilities include coaching and counseling; assisting with social, recreational, and educational activities; providing medical, nutritional, and behavioral support; including but not limited to lifting, walking with, transferring, and transporting individuals.  What a Direct Support Professional will be doing
<ul>
<li>Providing consistent care and assistance for individuals with disabilities living in their own homes - often shared with other residents.</li>
<li>Providingpersonal care and support which typically includes bathing, dressing, and full assistance with personal hygiene.</li>
<li>Providingsupport and assistance which typically includes general housekeeping, laundry, cleaning, and simple household maintenance within a group home type setting.</li>
<li>Assisting individuals with every aspect of daily living skills and activities, such as banking, recreational outings, grocery shopping, and general to-do responsibilities.</li>
<li>Providingmonitoring and support for safety for individuals with disabilities which typically involves following care plans, administering medications, and attending doctor visits.</li>
<li>Providingyour full focus and attention for the safety, support, and welfare of the individuals servedbyputting your personal cell phone away while on duty.</li>
<li>Assisting with program strategies and recreation activities in the home and the community.</li>
<li>Providing crisis management &amp; intervention at times for medical needs, behaviors, and other daily support challenges.</li>
<li>Supporting meal planning, cooking, and other preparations in accordance with dietary and nutritional guidelines.</li>
<li>Assisting with money management, shopping, and purchasing for individual's personal needs and supplies.</li>
<li>Providingsafe transportation into the community which may include driving an oversize multi-passenger van. Training is provided and this does not require any commercial drivers license.</li>
<li>Reading and understanding English in order to follow care guidelines, program plans and procedures, and complete required daily documentation.</li>
<li>Investing a lot of time learning about the people you serve in order to better meet their support needs.</li>
<li>Regularly completing required monthly and annual training in order to be better equipped for your job while also maintaining specific competencies and compliance to regulations for all direct support workers.</li>
<li>Participating in monthly staff meetings and contributing to a successful team process.</li>
<li>Paying close attention to detail and being comfortable working with a computer, which is necessary to support our clienteles needs (training is provided).</li>
<li>Providingfor the safeguard &amp; protection of individuals personal property, rights, and privacy.</li>
<li>Performing various assignments and demands of a physical nature, which may include the lifting and transferring of heavy weight at times in excess of 100 pounds, with, or without the use of adaptive or mechanical equipment, or staff assistance. </li>

The following certifications will need to be obtained and approved within company policy guidelines:

<li>State Medication Administration Certification (Group Home Workers Only)</li>
<li>First Aid for Accidents</li>
<li>CPR Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation</li>
<li>PMT Physical Management Techniques (Group Home Workers Only)</li>

Part Time Positions Available: (typically 12-hours to 24-hours over 7-days per week) includes weekday (early hours), weekend, and evening hours in a residential based home for Adults with Disabilities. Overtime is available.

Role Summary
As a DSP, youll provide direct daily living support, skill development, and community integration for participants. You'll assist in personal care, facilitate recreation, and document progressall within a respect-driven, nurturing environment.
 
Key Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Assist with personal care: hygiene, grooming, meals, medication reminders</li>
<li>Support daily living skills: budgeting, meal prep, housekeeping</li>
<li>Facilitate community access: appointments and recreational activities</li>
<li>Encourage social, educational, and emotional growth</li>
<li>Implement individualized plans and behavior supports</li>
<li>Observe and document participant progress and any health or behavioral changes</li>
<li>Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (case managers, therapists, families, supervisors)</li>
<li>Uphold safety standards and agency protocols</li>
</ul>
 
Required Qualifications
<ul>
<li>18years old</li>
<li>High school diploma or equivalent (some roles may require additional education)</li>
<li>Valid drivers license with clean driving record (for community outings)</li>
<li>Ability to pass background/criminal record checks</li>
<li>Physical capability: lifting, kneeling, bending as needed</li>
<li>Basic CPR/First Aid certification must obtain within 30 days of hire (Attuf Group can provide)</li>
<li>Strong communication, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity</li>
</ul>
 
Preferred Qualifications

<li>Prior experience with IDD, mental health, or caregiving</li>
<li>Postsecondary coursework or certification in human services</li>
<li>Bilingual skills (Spanish/English)</li>
