Research Contract Grant Specialist

The Michigan Society of Fellows was founded in 1970 through grants from the Ford Foundation and Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies for the purpose of promoting academic and creative excellence in the humanities, the arts, the social, physical, and life sciences, and in the professions. The objective of the Society is to provide financial and intellectual support for individuals holding advanced degrees in their fields, who are selected for their outstanding achievement, professional promise, and interdisciplinary interests.&nbsp;
Candidates should be near the beginning of their professional careers. Those selected for fellowships must have received the Ph.D. degree or comparable artistic or professional degree between June 1, 2021, and August 26, 2024. Fellows are appointed as Assistant Professors in appropriate departments and as Postdoctoral Scholars in the Michigan Society of Fellows. They are expected to be in residence in Ann Arbor during the academic years of the fellowship, to teach for the equivalent of one academic year, to participate in the informal intellectual life of the Society, and to devote time to their independent research or artistic projects. This is not an artist-in-residence program but rather an opportunity to develop one’s work in conversation with fellows from a range of disciplines during the three years of the fellowship. We seek a diverse and international pool of applicants and especially welcome candidates from underrepresented backgrounds. Applications from degree candidates and recipients of the Ph.D. or comparable artistic or professional degree from the University of Michigan will not be considered. Assistant Professor/Postdoctoral Research Fellow 

The Assistant Director (AD) for Residential Education reports to the Associate Director for Residential Education and is responsible for oversight and leadership of 2-4 residentially-based Learning Communities (LCs) that house between 1300 to 1900 students (roughly one-third of the on-campus population). The responsibilities of this position include training, supervision, development, and evaluation of 2-3 frontline full-time professional staff members (including Area Coordinators and/or Residence Directors) and 1 Graduate Coordinator. As a member of the Residential Education Leadership Team, the AD is responsible for overseeing the administrative and management functions of their Campus Area, as well as assisting in the development of policies and procedures for the department. The AD supports the ACs/RD to establish Learning Communities that foster community and civic engagement, enhance learning, advance diversity and inclusion, and promote student health, engagement, and success. This is a required live-on position.&nbsp; Successful candidates will be subject to background check due to the live-in nature of this position. Non-standard work hours are required, External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees.
Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s Degree is required in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Student Personnel, Counseling, Education, and related field, and at least 3-year full-time experience is required.
Desired Qualifications: Previous experience in residential life and/or learning communities is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who embrace the concepts of Restorative Practices and who have a demonstrated commitment to intercultural competency development and fostering a collaborative multicultural environment.
