Job Description

Field Service Technician

Location: Birmingham, AL

Looking for a skilled and motivated Field Service Technician ready to step into a role that’s as rewarding as it is challenging. This is your chance to be part of a leading service provider in the electrical power sector, where every day brings something different — from testing high-voltage systems to troubleshooting mission-critical components at customer sites across the region. If you enjoy solving problems in the field, take pride in your craft, and thrive in a role with plenty of autonomy, this is a great opportunity to grow your expertise while making a direct impact.

You’ll join a tight-knit team of professionals known for their technical precision and commitment to safety. From energy facilities and industrial plants to infrastructure projects, your work will help keep essential operations running — all while gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge diagnostic tools and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, and troubleshoot low, medium, and high-voltage (up to 500kV) electrical systems in the field.
  • Perform acceptance testing and maintenance on power transformers using tools like Doble, TTR, and insulation resistance meters.
  • Conduct instrument transformer tests, cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot), and calibrate electro-mechanical and solid-state relays.
  • Diagnose and repair automatic transfer switches, switchgear, and circuit breakers across a range of voltage classes.
  • Rotate through on-call emergency response, providing timely and effective support to customers when needed.
  • Adhere strictly to electrical safety standards and company protocols on every job.
  • Collaborate with teammates to share knowledge and achieve project goals safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of work performed and communicate clearly with both customers and internal teams.

You bring a solid background in electrical power systems, with at least five years of hands-on field experience. You’re comfortable working independently in dynamic environments and possess a strong understanding of safety practices and testing procedures. Military training or technical certifications (like NETA) are a big plus, but your dedication, communication skills, and willingness to learn are what truly set you apart.
