We are seeking a compassionate, creative, and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team for a Paternity Leave coverage. This role is perfect for an educator who thrives in a collaborative environment and wants to empower students with diverse learning needs. The time frame for this position is from December through mid-February.
As a Special Education Teacher at The Calais School, you will:
- Design and adapt engaging lessons to meet the needs of students with mild to moderate learning, emotional, and behavioral disabilities.
- Provide instruction in whole-class, small-group, and individualized settings.
- Assess student abilities, strengths, and areas for growth, using data to guide instruction.
- Collaborate with colleagues, families, and support staff to ensure each student’s success.
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect, inclusivity, and positive behavior.
- Support students in developing both academic and life skills that prepare them for success beyond the classroom.
- Communicate regularly with families to celebrate progress and provide meaningful updates.
Requirements:
What We’re Looking For
- Valid New Jersey Teacher of the Handicapped or Teacher of Students with Disabilities certification
- NJ Teacher of Science certification
- Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered teaching philosophy
- Creativity, flexibility, and resilience in addressing diverse learning and behavioral needs
- Excellent communication skills for working with students, families, and colleagues
- Commitment to being an active, collaborative member of a professional learning community
