POSITION SUMMARY

The R&D Project Engineer – Mechanical is a hands-on role focused on testing and validation for Rosenbauer’s major product development projects, with a preliminary focus on engines and engine support systems. This engineer will plan and execute tests, collect and analyze data, and provide actionable insights to improve product performance and durability. In addition to testing, the role may involve design work and spans a wide breadth of technical responsibilities, including leading corrosion prevention initiatives and participating in vehicle integration continuous improvements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following are the essential duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of Rosenbauer.

  1. Develop, execute, and document test plans for mechanical systems, including performance, durability, regulatory, user, and environmental testing.
  2. Design, manufacture, and set up test fixtures and instrumentation using a DAQ or other measurement equipment, depending on the test. Collect, organize, and analyze test data to identify trends and recommend design improvements.
  3. Participate in design activities as needed to support major development projects and implement test-driven improvements.
  4. Manage Rosenbauer’s corrosion prevention continuous improvement project, including research, testing, and implementation of best practices.
  5. Collaborate with design engineers, production teams, and suppliers to resolve technical issues and implement corrective actions.
  6. Lead continuous improvement discussions to improve vehicle integration and ensure consistency across product lines.
  7. Creates and maintains project, test, and design documentation, including project plans, project updates, design reports, test plans, and test reports. Prepares and presents status reports.
  8. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the company.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’s): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science-related field or equivalent related experience required.
  • 3+ years of related engineering testing experience preferred.
  • Experience with internal combustion engines and related components preferred.
  • Experience with design of experiments, data collection, and data analysis. Hands-on experience with data acquisition systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of firefighting processes and equipment preferred.

Skills:

Language:

  • Able to find, read, and interpret relevant scientific and technical documentation and standards.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Able to facilitate engineering discussions by listening, asking relevant questions, and suggesting solutions to problems.
  • Able to follow written and verbal directions and communicate new information that could affect project trajectories.

Math:

  • Basic math functions and accounting abilities with a high aptitude for accuracy.

Computer:

  • Able to perform intermediate PC functions including the use of spreadsheet tables and formulas.
  • Able to configure and use DAQ systems for gather test data.

A

Abilities:

  • Project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and status reporting.
  • Able to deal with problems involving a variety of variables in non-standard situations. Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to understand and apply research principles to smaller tasks or projects to make data-driven decisions.
  • Able to prioritize work and to multitask while adhering to deadlines.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
  • Able to understand and follow all safety policies to promote a safe working environment for all.
