Engineer I
The Town of New Canaan is currently seeking applicants for the position of Engineer I. This position reports directly to the Town Engineer and is responsible for providing engineering services by ensuring technical competence and compliance with all current codes and criteria by field review of private developments, design of small public works projects, review of bridge projects, general supervision of contractors, and review of CBYD applications and assistance with mark-outs. The Engineer I will perform general engineering work in the field or office pertaining to the Town’s Public Works Projects. Most work is performed outside in all types of weather. Position requires the ability to operate town vehicles. The position requires the employee to be flexible to get in and out of the vehicle often and to inspect: manholes, catch basins, trenches and culverts. Equipment used includes: survey equipment, vehicles and pickup trucks. Office equipment is also used for administrative duties.
Qualifications required would generally be acquired with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, and with four years of road/drainage construction, storm water management, development plan approvals type experience in another municipality or consulting firm working with municipalities; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training. Must have a valid driver’s license and Professional Engineer’s License in Civil Engineering valid in the State of Connecticut.
