The Engineering Manager oversees the manufacturing and programming teams, ensuring the successful execution of New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives while maintaining margin adherence. This role focuses on cost estimation, manufacturing process development, and continuous improvement to optimize production efficiency and product quality.
Roles & Responsibilities
Engineering Management

Evaluate customer quotes to identify strategic business opportunities.

Analyze engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical data to produce accurate and timely cost estimates.

Collaborate with Launch Team Managers to develop optimized manufacturing processes and CNC programs.

Maintain an estimated programming spreadsheet to assess capacity load and resource allocation.

Assist in fixture design development to improve manufacturing efficiency.

Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process-related concerns.

Identify issues and develop effective solutions using structured problem-solving approaches.

Partner with operations and quality teams to ensure seamless product transitions into production.

Support quality inspectors by clarifying customer specifications and requirements.

Analyze failure trends, implement corrective and preventive actions, and respond to customer complaints effectively.

Maintain customer-specific documentation and participate in customer visits and audits.

Track variances between estimated and actual costs, ensuring continuous improvement of cost estimation parameters.

Present strategic process improvement recommendations to senior management.

Propose manufacturing process enhancements to optimize quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Lead by example in promoting a strong quality culture and adherence to the organizations quality management system.
Additional Responsibilities

Required Skills & Abilities

Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.

Proficiency in Windows-based systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Strong business acumen with analytical and strategic problem-solving capabilities.

Highly organized, with exceptional time management skills.

In-depth knowledge of the machining industry, including familiarity with standards such as ASTM, SAE, ISO, and MIL-Standards.
Education & Experience

Bachelors degree in Engineering required; Masters degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred.

5+ years of managerial experience in engineering leadership roles.

10+ years of experience in the Machine Tool Technology trade.

Experience with ISO9001/AS9100 quality management systems preferred.

Six Sigma Certification (Green or Black Belt) preferred.
