Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field, active Deaf & Hard of Hearing (DHH) certification, and 1+ years Deaf & Hard of Hearing Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A full-time teaching opportunity is available for a certified Teacher of the Deaf to support K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This contract position spans the full 2025-2026 school year, starting September 2, 2025, and concluding June 24, 2026. The position is located in Brooklyn, NY.
Key Qualifications:
- NYSED certification as a Teacher of the Deaf is required
- Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students across K-12 grade levels
- Strong knowledge of deaf education methodologies, communication strategies, and assistive technologies
- Ability to develop individualized educational plans and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction tailored to the academic and communication needs of deaf and hard of hearing students
- Assess student progress regularly and adjust teaching methods accordingly
- Integrate use of speech, sign language, and technology based on individual student needs
- Provide support and training to colleagues, families, and other stakeholders regarding deaf education and accommodations
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes student growth and independence
