Job DescriptionSalary:

Kopp Glass, a Pittsburgh-based manufacturer of high-performance, custom glass products, is seeking to hire a Glass Engineer to support the focus on continuous improvement of manufacturing processes to generate improved plant performance and workflow optimization, as well as bringing in new and enabling technologies such as automation, robotics, and other leading-edge process improvement technologies. This position works cross-functionally with Operations, Quality Assurance, and Sales to supply unique, custom technical glass solutions across several market segments, including aerospace and defense, safety and signal lighting, energy and power distribution, and industrial, scientific, and medical equipment. The Glass Engineer ensures that glass is manufactured to specification as quickly and efficiently as possible through process optimization and prompt, effective problem solving. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical and technical abilities while demanding fast, but carefully thought-out results. A successful candidate must also demonstrate a strong commitment to technical, managerial, and leadership self-development.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Glass Engineer works with production on day-to-day operations to ensure smooth and efficient processing of product on either the hot end or cold end of the production process.
  • Investigate and implement improved processes and enabling technologies through close collaboration with the R&E, Production, Process Improvement, QA, and Purchasing departments, with a strong focus on leading edge manufacturing technologies including automation, robotics, and sensors.
  • Analyze and resolve production related issues and set up methods of prevention for future occurrences through application of rigorous mechanical, glass science and engineering principles.
  • Collaborate on inter-departmental teams for new process development based on a strategic, disciplined approach by supporting study and implementation of new product development activities in Production.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or masters degree in Glass, Ceramic, Materials, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
  • Entry-level (0-3 years) and Mid-level (3-5 years) positions available
