This position is responsible for installation and service work on all types of ERL barge equipment. You will work closely with the Houston General Manager, Pump Manager, and Director of Customer Service to complete service work in an efficiently and timely manner. Must have a strong mechanical aptitude and the willingness to learn new products. Provide on-site maintenance, technical support, and service for our customers.
Build relationships with our customer’s maintenance personnel. Always represent ERL in a positive way, acting professionally while performing marine product maintenance/service and training.
This person will be on call and must be willing to travel on very short notice. Comfortable with flying and being on the road overnight. Familiar with all types of tools, loading trucks, trailers, following directions, reading schematics and blueprints.
When not doing Field Service work, you will be performing hands on Valve Tech work such as troubleshooting, assessing, and repairing all pressure relief valves in the shop too. You may also rebuild ball valves, PV valves,actuators, vacuum breakers, etc. Must have a strong mechanical aptitude and the willingness to learn new products. You will be on call and must be willing to travel on very short notice.

Duties and Responsibilities Field Service

  • Responsible for installation and service work on all types of ERL equipment.
  • You will be responsible for service truck and ensuring that it is maintained and stocked with parts that may be necessary to complete the service work tasks.
  • You must follow all safety regulations laid out by ERL and Barge Owners.
  • You will be responsible for the documentation of service job including mileage driven, parts used, time on barge and travel time.
  • You must be able to follow detailed procedures and document exact dimensions and fits during assembly
  • You will be responsible for performing service for ERL valve and tubing customers such as repairing/replacing our products.
  • You will stay in contact via email and phone with customers that require service
  • You will be expected to perform service work with minimal notice and be willing to drive several hundred miles away from ERL Houston
  • You will take detailed notes on both service and training jobs, then write reports in Word or Excel format and Save on server
  • You will email reports after each job with details including date, contact names, boat number, barge number, customer issues, customer feedback, solution, your suggestions, working conditions, and issue status

Duties and Responsibilities Valve Tech

  • Work autonomously in valve repair process.
  • Ensure all diagnostic, testing, and repair reports are in compliance with quality system.
  • Perform failure assessments and make recommendations to the Valve Shop Manager as required.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment with the ability to make decisions and corrections when problems are identified or detected
  • Removal and installation of repaired and new equipment
  • Complete all necessary field service paperwork and ancillary procedures
  • Ensure work and materials used follow manufactures specifications
  • Read and interpret schematics for assembly, repair, or reassembly as require for various forms of vales
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures
  • Practices safe work habits to ensure an injury free environment
  • Must be available for afterhours and on-call shifts
  • Must have TWIC Card and attend job and safety training, as necessary or required
  • Any job duties as assigned by supervisor or manager

Job Requirements

  • On-Site Field Service work
  • Safety Training – keep current with safety policies.
  • Education preferred: high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 3- 5 years of experience rebuilding and VR certifying pressure relief valves
  • Prior VR training and/or certifications: knowledge of NBIC Part 4
  • May be required to maintain fit test certification
  • Tankerman Training preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Marine Service Technician on Tank Barges
  • Must have a great attitude and ethical behavior
  • Attention to detail and great work ethic
  • Analytical, problem solving, time management and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrate teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills

Essential Physical and Mental Functions Required

  • Lifting: up to 50 pounds
