Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support students in a K-12 educational setting. This contract position in Corpus Christi, TX, offers a chance to make a meaningful impact by helping visually impaired students develop essential skills for independence and safe navigation.
Responsibilities:
- Assess and evaluate students orientation and mobility needs
- Develop and implement individualized mobility training programs
- Teach travel techniques using assistive technology and mobility aids
- Collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to integrate services
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
Qualifications:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS preferred)
- Experience working with children in K-12 school environments
- Knowledge of assistive devices and adaptive technologies for visually impaired students
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to develop personalized instructional plans
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to student success
