Location: Maitland, FL - Onsite

Summary:

As a Fire Engineering Coordinator, you will provide research expertise for national fire system design submittals and permitting requirements. Primary responsibility is to contact Authorities Having Jurisdiction to determine fire system requirements of customer site. Track progress of submittals and permitting. Provide information to installation and service departments. Prepare submittals and permit paperwork as required. Assist with the activities of Fire Engineering as requested. Provides national assistance of fire code interpretation and compliance under supervision for all states and counties, including but not limited to NFPA fire codes and International Code Council, used in the system design work and as a support for the project teams, service department and customers. The position is active in the fire alarm and fire suppression communities.

What You'll Do:

  • Research of Fire Alarm Systems & Permitting Requirements:
    • Contact Authority Having Jurisdiction for nationwide fire system design requirements.
    • Maintain a database of all AHJ information including code requirements per city/county and state.
    • Work with the Fire Engineering Manager, Fire System Designer and Project Managers to assist in providing national fire system code, submittal, and permitting requirements throughout the proposal and project stages.
  • Tracking & Follow-Up on Fire Alarm Systems Installation Submittals & Permits:
    • Maintain a schedule of projects and timeline for completion of design and submittal, providing updates as required to the Fire Engineering Manager, Project Managers and Project Coordinators.
    • Review the key milestones and prioritize and execute by those which most impact the installation project timeline.
    • Seek input from Project Manager, Project Coordinators, Sr. Fire System Design Coordinator and/or Fire Engineering Manager for any task conflicts.
    • Must be evaluated on a day-to-day basis, or more frequently as dictated by the project trend.
    • Prepare electronic file for each project and maintain that file as needed.
  • Administrative Support to Fire Engineering Supervisor/Group:
    • Prepare fire design submittal paperwork as required by the fire research.
    • This task may include printing, copying, and binding of documents.
    • The distribution will most commonly include mailing or shipping of documentation for permitting to AHJ.
    • Attend all necessary customer or installation conference calls as scheduled.
    • Keep and maintain electronically all manufacturers cut sheets and information current as it relates to fire alarm systems.
    • Orders and maintains general office supplies.
  • Maintain Knowledge Base of Fire Alarm Industry:
    • Grow current code knowledge.
    • Review new industry products.
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key individuals and organizations within the fire alarm industry.

What You'll Need:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 Years Experience:
    • Industry, Knowledge of local jurisdictions - Preferred.
  • Basic Knowledge of NFPA (National Fire Prevention Association), Fire Codes & ICC, (Internation Code Council); Fundamental Knowledge of Fire Alarm Systems & Their Components - Preferred:
    • System design, code compliance, plan approval, industry standing.
  • NICET I - Fire Certification or Working Toward NICET I Certification - Preferred:
    • Application and understanding of system design, code compliance, requirement for jurisdictional design certifications.
  • Proficiency in D365, Excel, Outlook & Other Specialized Software:
    • D365- navigating and updating project notes.
    • Moving projects along in database.
    • Excel – reporting, tracking.

    • Outlook – high volume of email traffic communicating with Account Teams, AHJs, TSPs, and customers.
  • Proficient Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
    • Interface with government officials, customers, contractors, project teams and senior management.
