Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) Supervisor to manage and support the daily operations of the asbestos TEM laboratory. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in electron microscopy, sample preparation, and instrument maintenance. This role involves supervising users, managing equipment, maintaining lab protocols, and contributing to high-level imaging and analysis projects.
Key Responsibilities:
TEM Operations & Supervision

Oversee the operation, calibration, and maintenance of TEM instruments and related equipment.

Ensure optimal performance and uptime of TEM systems (e.g., JEOL, FEI, Hitachi, etc.).

Supervise day-to-day activities in the microscopy lab, ensuring safe and effective operations.

Train and support users in sample preparation, instrument use, and image/data analysis.
User Support & Training

Assist staff across departments in planning and conducting TEM analysis.

Provide hands-on training and develop instructional materials for new users.

Monitor and manage user scheduling, usage logs, and adherence to protocols.
Technical Expertise & Imaging

Prepare and analyze samples using standard and advanced techniques for asbestos analysis.

Perform high-resolution imaging and elemental analysis (e.g., EDX, SAED).

Interpret and troubleshoot complex imaging data in collaboration with principal investigators.
Lab & Equipment Management

Maintain lab supplies, consumables, and inventory related to electron microscopy.

Schedule and coordinate preventive maintenance and service with equipment vendors.

Ensure compliance with safety regulations and waste disposal protocols.
Administrative & Reporting

Maintain documentation including SOPs, maintenance logs, and user training records.

Stay current with advances in TEM and asbestos analysis to recommend upgrades as needed.

Prepare client reports.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, or related field.

3+ years of hands-on experience with transmission electron microscopy.

3+ years of hand-on experience with asbestos analysis
-
Prior experience in a supervisory, training, or core facility support role.

Proficiency in sample preparation, instrument operation, and digital image analysis.

Strong communication and organizational skills.
