The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing daily production operations within our aseptic and hot fill food manufacturing facility. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position ensures that production goals are achieved safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory and food safety requirements. The Production Manager will lead, coach, and support Production Supervisors and production teams to achieve operational excellence, drive continuous improvement, and uphold our commitment to quality, sustainability, and employee development.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly manage and develop Production Supervisors and ensure effective leadership of all production team members.

  • Establish clear expectations, provide coaching and performance feedback, and foster a culture of accountability and engagement.

  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, SQF standards, and safety requirements.

  • Actively promote and support a strong, positive food safety and workplace culture.

  • Participate in the interdisciplinary food safety and quality team to drive continuous improvement and uphold company certifications.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day production activities to ensure safe, efficient, and timely completion of manufacturing schedules.

  • Monitor production lines for performance, quality, and adherence to SOPs, GMPs, and safety standards.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (USDA, FDA, NCDA, HACCP, GFSI).

  • Collaborate with Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering to resolve process or equipment issues and minimize downtime.

  • Review and analyze production data, identify trends, and implement corrective actions where necessary.

  • Ensure proper documentation and traceability of production runs, including all required quality and regulatory records.

  • Perform Standard work audits to identify risks and opportunities and evaluate performance.

  • Lead, coach, and mentor Production Supervisors to strengthen leadership capabilities and team performance.

  • Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews.

  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and collaborative team environment with high morale and accountability.

  • Identify training and development needs for production staff and coordinate with Training and HR to ensure skills advancement.

  • Support Lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement programs to enhance productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.

  • Lead problem-solving and root cause analysis efforts for production issues.

  • Implement and sustain 5S practices and promote visual management throughout production areas.

  • Track and communicate KPIs, including throughput, yield, waste, downtime, and efficiency metrics.

  • Work closely with the Plant Manager and Scheduling to align production plans with customer orders and business objectives.

  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and appropriate skill coverage across all shifts.

  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering on preventive maintenance schedules and equipment optimization projects.

  • Partner with the Quality team to ensure adherence to product specifications and continuous quality improvement.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety programs, including OSHA, LOTO, and company-specific safety policies.

  • Promote proactive safety behavior and lead regular safety meetings and audits.

  • Support investigations and corrective actions for safety incidents or near misses.

  • Uphold SQF requirements including promotion of a strong & positive food safety culture

  • Active involvement in implementation, upkeep and continuous improvement of food safety as part of an interdisciplinary team

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to motivate and develop teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Solid understanding of aseptic processing, food manufacturing operations, and regulatory standards.

  • Ability to troubleshoot production and equipment issues and coordinate effective solutions.

  • Proficiency in using production data for decision-making and performance management.

  • Thorough working knowledge of current OSHA and safety standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Business, or related field; equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in food manufacturing or production management, preferably in aseptic or beverage processing.

  • Experience leading teams and supervising multiple production lines.

  • Knowledge of Food Safety Programs, HACCP, GMPs, and SQF standards.

  • Better Processing Control School certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for 10-hour shifts

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times multiple times per shift

  • Frequent bending, crouching, or twisting

Work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights, and temperature extremes to complete work assignments
