Plant Operations Manager – Flexible Packaging

Department: Factory Management

Job Summary:

The primary focus of the position will be to lead the printing operation towards advanced standards of safety, quality, production, efficiency, and optimal individual contribution. Process analysis and improvement will be a major responsibility. This will include the evaluation of current processes and procedures. This position is responsible for recommending, implementing, monitoring, and measuring the effectiveness of policies and procedures. This position will be responsible for the training, motivating, developing, disciplining and evaluation of the staff. In the absence of this position, the Department Manager and Department Leads will take over.

Education:

Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Packaging or equivalent work experience and demonstrated knowledge.

Experience:

REQUIRED: Minimum 5 years’ experience in flexible packaging in a management role

Requirements:

  • MUST have a strong technical background in a variety of films and printing processes.
  • Trained in proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal, leadership, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Must have the ability to communicate and train effectively plant wide through education, training, and teamwork.
  • Must adhere to all quality processes, including documentation and verification, as they apply to the performance of your tasks.
  • Must ensure all ink, mounting, laminating, slitting, pouch, material handling and maintenance employees are performing the required documentation and verifications of the food safety and quality processes.
  • Computer proficient, New Poly Print program training will be provided.
  • Hire, train, direct and mentor staff and all plant employees.
  • Ensure the safety of all employees; lead a comprehensive safety program to prevent injuries.  Comply with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations (EPA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Responsible for the monitoring and reinforcement of the Food Safety and Quality program in all production areas
  • Ability to oversee, monitor and enforce all company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to remain on budget of raw materials and waste while ensuring quality.

Duties:

  • Responsible for training employees and enforcing standardized processes and procedures for production, quality, employee and product safety within the mounting, lamination, slitting, maintenance, ink, press, and pouch departments.
  • Must ensure a safe working environment and that employees are compliant with all personnel, product, and food safety regulations and quality requirements including but not limited to adhering to safety policy, wearing protective gear, wearing safety glasses, steal toed shoes, gloves, etc.
  • Must ensure safety guards are in place on all machinery, especially when the equipment is operational.
  • Reprimand employees not in compliance with any policies and procedures,
  • Responsible for ensuring ALL employees are in accordance with all Poly Print environmental procedures and regulations regarding the handling and disposing of hazardous waste.
  • Maintain neat and orderly workplace.
  • Perform special assignments as requested.
  • Trained in the handling of hazardous materials.
  • Trained in spill control and clean up.
  • Trained in Emergency Response and Contingency Plan
  • This job position is a “safety sensitive position.”
  • This position may include tasks or duties that Poly Print in good faith believes could affect the safety or health of the employee performing the task or others, including, but not limited to the following:
  • Operating a motor vehicle, other vehicle, equipment, machinery, or power tools
  • Repairing, maintaining, or monitoring the performance or operation of any equipment, machinery, or manufacturing process. The malfunction or disruption of which could result in injury or property damage.

Plant Operations Manager is informed and held accountable for their food safety and regulatory responsibilities.

Plant Operations Manager is positively encouraged and required to notify management of actual or potential food safety issues.

Plant Operations Manager is empowered to act to resolve food safety issues within their scope of work.
