Lake Superior Academy is hiring a full-time K-5 Classroom Assistant.
Lake Superior Academy located in Sault Ste Marie is a tuition free public school academy serving children in grades K-5th. Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate K-5 Classroom Assistant to support our teachers and enhance the learning experience for students. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education, possess strong communication skills, and have a genuine desire to help young learners achieve their academic and personal goals. This role is critical in creating a positive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:

Assist teachers with the preparation and implementation of instructional materials, resources, and classroom activities.

Provide individualized support to students, including helping with classwork, assignments, and assessments.

Assist in the preparation and organization of classroom materials, supplies, and resources.

Help with classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment.

Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers and other educational staff.

Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, and any off-campus events as needed.

Support the teacher in assessing student progress and maintaining accurate records.

Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents regarding student progress and needs.

Maintain confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information.

Regular and predictable attendance
Cognitive Demands:

Supervise multiple students at once

Provide instructional assistance to students in an individual or small group setting

Ability to maintain a safe and orderly environment for students

Participate in continuous professional development

Effective oral and written communication skills
Physical Demands:

Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds

Stand and walk frequently

Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year

Assist/lift students if necessary

Withstand a moderate noise level
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred.

Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is highly desirable.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
