PURPOSE:

We are seeking a dedicated Service Technician to perform field and in-house service work on power and distribution transformers. The ideal candidate will have experience with installation, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of transformers ranging from 500kVA to 500 MVA.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience servicing electrical transformers.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and test equipment.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/IEEE transformer standards.
  • Ability to work at customer sites, including nights, weekends, and travel.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or heights.

DUTIES:

  • Inspect, test, diagnose, and service distribution transformers.
  • Perform transformer oil sampling, analysis, processing (dry-out), and replacement.
  • Conduct electrical testing (e.g., insulation resistance, TTR, winding resistance, power factor, SFRA).
  • Support installation and commissioning of new transformers.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and perform on-site troubleshooting.
  • Document work performed and prepare detailed service reports.
  • Work closely with engineering, project management, and safety teams to ensure job quality and compliance.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Experience with Doble, Megger, Omicron, or similar test equipment.
  • Knowledge of oil processing rigs and vacuum filling systems.
  • OSHA 10/30 or other relevant safety certifications.
  • NETA or NICET certification is a plus.
  • Selected candidate will participate in a background, drug screen, and motor vehicle report.
  • CDL License a plus
