Under the direction of the Division Manager, the Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting with the successful design and installation of projects.

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently enrolled in an architectural engineering, or mechanical engineering program preferred, or the knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Years of Relevant Work Experience: 1+ years of experience in a construction environment and CAD experience preferred.
  • Certificates/Licenses: Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record.
  • Physical Job Requirements: Required to sit, stand and move throughout Company facilities. Must be able to perform job responsibilities in an industrial, construction site and general outdoor environment around heavy machinery and equipment.

Engineering Career Progression

Intern → Project Engineer → Account Manager or Sales Engineer → Senior Account Manager / Senior Sales Engineer

This is the progression through the various levels of engineering. Employees become eligible for promotion when they demonstrate consistent, reliable, and successful performance of their defined duties independently.

Key Activities

The responsibilities listed are for an entry level engineering position with our company. Throughout your internship, you will have the opportunity to be exposed to as many of these tasks as possible.

  1. Project Preparation. Obtain detailed understanding of assigned projects (contract specifications, terms, scope, alternates, estimated costs, and planned installation methods). Assist with the preparation of detailed project estimates and participate in turnover meetings from sales to installation crew. Generate detailed drawings utilizing computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment. Prepare project documentation packet for field.
  2. Project Documentation. Prepare and communicate equipment submittals. Prepare and communicate project RFI’s as early as possible in the project. Maintain RFI log and documentation. Maintain all required project documentation in accordance with Company standards.
  3. Design and Engineering Support. Assist in designing building systems with your associated team. Gain thorough understanding of project by reviewing all pertinent documentation, meeting with customers, visiting job sites. Serve as technical liaison between Company and external engineering/technical resources.
  4. Project Financials. Learn and understand financial job performance, and how it is impacted by design.
  5. Arrange and participate in post-mortem meetings for all jobs that are completed outside of normal guidelines.
  6. Participate in the development and implementation of Company best practices.
