POSITION PURPOSE:
This mission centered position works closely with the ASED Lab Manager to ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the ASED Lab department by focusing on continuous process improvements and staff development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Effectively and efficiently work all roles within the ASED division of lab operations.
• First point of contact for day-to-day situations, or issues.
• Responsible for ensuring the team's duties are performed daily and open communication is maintained.
• Work with ASED Lab Manager on the maintenance, development, and implementation of the ASED Lab department work instructions and training documents.
• Work alongside the ASED Manager to continue developing and updating the training program.
• Ensure proper sign-off and documentation of individual and team training.
• Provide ongoing coaching and development training to the ASED Lab team related to lab processes, organizational procedures, regulatory compliance, critical thinking, problem solving, and time management.
• Complete bi-weekly One-on-one (O3s) with staff.
• Responsible for time and attendance of staff, including maintaining and approving
• Timesheets and monitoring PTO.
• Assist ASED Lab Manager with daily huddles and weekly staff meetings including leading meetings as necessary.
• Help monitor daily KPI's and workloads to ensure that we are meeting our daily goals.
• Work with ASED Lab Manager to ensure quality is upheld and all Quality Assurance Non-conformances are submitted in a timely manner.
• Responsible for uploading proper documentation for lab processes and equipment.
• Monitor staff KPIs to ensure equitable workload.
• Work alongside the manager to determine improvement strategies and tactics for staff development, processes and improve efficiency.
• Work with the team to ensure inventory of the work cells and stockroom is maintained to proper levels.
• Champion departmental and interdepartmental communication and coordination.
• Work with trainers to educate staff members on how to effectively and efficiently use our database systems.
• Availability to be on call, as needed, after hours for business-related matters.
LEADERSHIP:
• Work with Human Resources and management to recruit, interview, select, and onboard new staff.
• Maintain quality results through continued training of competencies and performance assessments; ensure appropriate documentation.
• Create staff scheduling to ensure business needs are met.
• Coach, mentor and develop staff during routine O3's
• Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members that allows for disagreement over ideas and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness and working effectively together to enable each employee and the department to succeed.
• Consciously create a workplace culture that is consistent with Saving Sight's overall culture and that emphasizes the identified mission, vision and values of the organization.
• Maintain transparent communication. Appropriately communicate organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, email, and regular interpersonal communication.
• Maintain ASED Lab productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas, proactively make operational adjustments as needed.
• Analyze and align ASED Lab expectations with current and future business needs.
• Assist ASED Lab Manager with providing effective performance feedback through the performance management process, employee recognition, rewards and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary.
EDUCATION:
• High school diploma and an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired.
• Continual training and certification as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in medical, or surgical background or equivalent work experience.
• Knowledge of aseptic technique.
• Strong coaching and development skills preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to manage and handle stress while showing good judgment.
• Ability to think strategically and plan work around attaining goals and objectives.
• Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, with limited direction, and in a team environment.
• Ability to work with distraction and to multi-task with frequent interruptions.
• Working knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, general database functionality, and web-based applications.
• Must maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record as determined by the organization.
• Must have reliable transportation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Frequent periods of intense concentration, attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to handle mental and physical strain involved in the use of printed materials, prolonged use of computer screens, supplies, and day to day lab tasks.
• Must have Hepatitis B vaccine
• The ability to lift and move 50 pounds is required.
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
• Normal lab environment.
• Clean room and handling of biohazard materials.
