Job Description
Senior Engineer R&D
This role is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys both leading and doing. As a Senior R&D Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and developing innovative medical devices. You'll manage projects from the ground up, taking ideas from concept through to launch, while also getting hands-on with technical challenges and problem-solving. It’s a key position that blends leadership, technical expertise, and cross-functional collaboration.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the development of new products or improvements to existing ones, using solid engineering practices and creative thinking.
- Work with different teams across the business to gather technical requirements and turn them into clear, actionable plans.
- Research materials and processes to ensure products are safe, reliable, and efficient to manufacture.
- Oversee the prototyping and testing phases, analyzing performance, gathering feedback, and refining designs as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation throughout the development process, including test data and design decisions.
- Share updates and findings with internal teams and occasionally with external partners or stakeholders.
- Support the creation of documentation for manufacturing processes and quality assurance.
- Keep projects on track by managing timelines and deliverables.
- Help mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on project tasks where needed.
- Pitch in on other engineering tasks to support the wider R&D goals.
What You Bring to the Table
- A degree in engineering (BS, MS, or PhD), along with relevant experience in medical device development. Ideally 2 to 5+ years depending on education level.
- Experience taking products from early-stage design all the way to production.
- Solid understanding of project management and the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- A knack for solving problems and thinking analytically under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills - you’re comfortable working both independently and with diverse teams.
- Familiarity with design controls, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Proficiency with tools like SolidWorks, MS Office, and common project tracking platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and a strong focus on quality.
