Job Description A day in the life

Reporting to the Department Manager, you will guide precision components through multiple finishing stages at TOMZ, where we manufacture parts via high precision metal machining, finishing, assembly, and anodize processes for medical devices. You will maintain ISO 13485 standards documentation, prepare materials for processing, and carry out visual and dimensional inspections to ensure every completed component meets exacting requirements.

What you will do

  • Prepare and process components across a full range of metal finishing operations, including tumbling, blasting, heat treat, laser welding, laser marking, passivation, and anodize.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections on manufactured components using a microscope, micrometer, caliper, pin gauges, thread gauges, comparator, and Micro-Hite.
  • Complete and compile documentation aligned with quality inspection standards and ISO 13485.
  • Maintain material control, identification, and traceability for both conforming and nonconforming material throughout manufacturing.
  • Support Quality Best Practices and GDP/GMP continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize and navigate ERP and QMS systems to accurately document and control inspection and traceability activities.
  • Follow occupational safety and health requirements, including PPE guidance and rules.
  • Adhere to the TOMZ Quality Management System.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About you

  • Background in Class I, II, and or III medical device manufacturing.
  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing industry such as aerospace, defense, or pharmaceutical.
  • Working knowledge of GMP and ISO standards.
  • Strong hands-on experience with mechanical metal finishing equipment and processes.
  • Comfort using basic hand tools for preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and procedures.
  • High attention to detail and consistent accuracy with timely task completion.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and collaborate in a team.
  • Skilled at partnering with R and D, Manufacturing, and QA with minimal guidance.
  • Strong organizational abilities.

Education and experience

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent directly transferrable work experience (manufacturing or engineering discipline preferred).
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.

Physical requirements

  • Able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds; team lift or mechanical assistance for items over 50 pounds.
  • Work may involve exposure to oil, grease, occupational noise, cleaning solvents, dust, metal particles, sparks, coolant, and sharp-edged materials. PPE such as safety glasses, dust masks, ear plugs, and cut-resistant or chemical-resistant gloves, along with engineering controls, may be required.
  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
