Job DescriptionCNC Manufacturing Process Programmer (Multi‑Axis)

Imagine launching a new implant component: you architect the process, choose the fixturing, map out multi‑axis strategies in CAD/CAM, and then stand at the machine to verify every move. The result? Reliable, efficient programs that keep our mission of Life Unlimited moving.

Your impact

  • Author and maintain advanced multi‑axis CNC programs with CAD/CAM to manufacture precision parts.
  • Define the machining process—chucking/fixturing, tool selection and layout, and feeds/speeds—driving standardization and tool life.
  • Lead machine‑side prove‑outs and validate programs for release.
  • Write clear work instructions; supervise machining process validations and train operators.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Development Engineering, plant teams, and external partners to solve problems and deliver on schedule.
  • Safeguard program integrity by managing the master CNC program directory with strict file management.
  • Deliver and report on cost‑saving improvements.
  • Plan, coordinate, and assign programming tasks to fellow programmers when required.
  • Contribute to the design of jigs, tools, fixtures, and special‑purpose CNC equipment.
  • Maintain and promote current CNC programming standards.
  • Recommend new equipment to enhance capability and throughput.
  • Follow programming file management procedures and applicable Quality Specifications to ensure QMS compliance.
  • Mentor programmers and machinists as a recognized authority.
  • Drive cross‑functional improvements and kaizen initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college/technical degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of CNC programming experience, including 3+ years using CAD/CAM.
  • Required expertise: Unigraphics for multi‑axis milling and PartMaker for multi‑axis lathe programming.
  • Ability to adapt to normal scheduling and urgent needs to keep parts flowing; work may arise from on‑the‑shop‑floor opportunities.
  • Excellent documentation skills and clear verbal communication.
  • Strong math skills, including trigonometry, and the analytical ability to resolve shop challenges.
  • Physical requirements: walking and standing about 50% of the time; bending, squatting, and reaching about 10%.
  • Bonus: Prior machinist experience.
