Job Description
The Junior Process Engineer will join the Process Engineering team to develop into a full-fledged Process Engineer role. The individual will review production jobs, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, delivery, and cost standards. They will provide root cause analysis and corrective actions for processes that deviate from control, and ensure product quality by enforcing company standards. A key part of the role involves processing and sampling a variety of materials to meet systemic and product quality expectations, with a focus on understanding the effects of process variables in injection molding and scientific molding principles.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate equipment and direct repairs as needed.
- Analyze production reports to evaluate and report production information.
- Identify opportunities to enhance plastics processing and tooling performance.
- Resolve process-related quality concerns using problem-solving techniques such as 8D, 5 Why, and PDCA.
- Collaborate with suppliers and customers to address issues.
- Utilize Scientific Injection Molding technology to solve production problems.
- Provide technical support for production and troubleshoot non-specification issues.
- Enforce production floor rules, including safety measures.
- Initiate actions to prevent non-conformities related to product, process, and quality system.
- Establish and maintain written procedures per ISO requirements.
- Manage and communicate production scheduling via IQMS, including changeovers, samples, tool PMs, and repairs.
- Support changeover, setup, and monitoring of sample runs.
- Deliver training and instruction on new processes and equipment during product development and launch.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure quality products and processes are developed on time.
- Design, develop, and improve new and existing processes in line with project objectives and health & safety regulations.
- Support the introduction of new products and services into the business.
- Create or update Standard Operating Procedures as needed.
- Support first article inspection processes and ensure molding performance meets design specifications.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of Injection Molding experience, can be from a technician role.
- Experience in troubleshooting processes, including 8D problem-solving.
- Lean Manufacturing and Process Improvement experience, including Six Sigma.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Engineering is preferred but not required.
Work Environment
The Junior Process Engineer will work alongside two other Process Engineers and report to the plant manager and quality/production manager. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with the possibility of up to 45 hours during busy periods. The role supports facilities in Vicksburg. The company is a highly-automated injection molding firm located in southwest Michigan, specializing in mid to high-volume molded parts for various industries, including automotive, medical, food grade, and consumer packaging. This is a Contract position based out of Vicksburg, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.45 - $32.70/hr.
