Job Description
This Manufacturing Engineer role is focused on planning, directing, analyzing, and coordinating manufacturing processes to drive continuous improvement. You will create standard work instructions for new truck designs, review blueprints and engineering drawings, focusing on specific components such as side walls or roofs, and ensure processes meet quality and efficiency standards. The role involves active participation in value stream mapping events to identify and implement process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement manufacturing processes for new and existing products.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including value stream mapping events.
- Create and maintain standard work instructions from scratch for new truck builds.
- Translate design requirements into clear, actionable manufacturing steps.
- Review truck designs and blueprints to ensure manufacturability.
- Collaborate with design teams to optimize production efficiency.
- Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
Essential Skills
- 2+ years of automotive engineering experience.
- 3D CAD experience to read blueprints of trucks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to write clear, detailed work instructions.
- Knowledgeable of Lean Manufacturing Concepts.
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in SolidWorks as the 3D CAD software.
Work Environment
This is an excellent opportunity for a newer Manufacturing Engineer to gain valuable experience and build a long-term career. The role offers a balanced work schedule of 40 to potentially 45 hours weekly, with flexible start times of 6 am-3 pm, 7 am-4 pm, or 8 am-5 pm. This flexibility is ideal for engineers needing some leeway in the mornings or afternoons. The company is a leading walk-in van body manufacturer in North America, producing over 7,500 vehicles annually and serving a multitude of industries.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sturgis, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $45.67/hr.
