The Mother of the Bride Fashion Consultant is responsible for providing personalized, expert styling and fashion consultation to the mother of the bride and/or other wedding guest members, (and often the mother of the groom), ensuring she they find an elegant, comfortable, and appropriate outfit that harmonizes with the wedding's theme, formality, and color palette. This role requires a keen eye for fashion, exceptional customer service, and the ability to manage sensitive family dynamics.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Client Consultation & Styling
- Conduct in-depth one-on-one consultations to understand the client's personal style, body type, comfort preferences, and budget.
- Discuss the wedding's specifics, including theme, venue, time of day, formality level, and the bride's and bridal party's colors and attire.
- Curate a personalized selection of gowns, suits, jumpsuits, and other attire options from inventory that complement the client's needs and the wedding's aesthetic theme.
- Provide expert advice on appropriate color coordination, ensuring the outfit complements, but does not match or clash with, the bridesmaids' dresses or the mother of the groom's attire (where applicable).
- Offer professional guidance on silhouette and fit to flatter the client's body shape and ensure comfort.
2. Outfit Completion & Coordination
- Style complete looks by recommending and coordinating accessories such as jewelry, wraps and handbags.
- Take accurate measurements to determine appropriate sizing for ordering.
- Manage client files, tracking all measurements, style notes, orders, sales information, and pickup dates.
3. Sales & Customer Experience
- Maintain a high level of product knowledge, including designer brands, fabric types, care instructions, and pricing.
- Achieve personal and team sales goals and handle all transactions (deposits, final payments, etc.) professionally.
- Cultivate a positive, stress-free, and memorable shopping experience, often involving emotional support and mediation of different family opinions.
- Handle client concerns and issues with composure, escalating complex matters to management when necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
Required Qualifications
- Proven work experience in retail sales, fashion consulting, or a special occasion/bridal boutique environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; a degree or certification in Fashion Merchandising, Design, or Retail is a strong asset.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends (especially Saturdays during peak season).

- Fashion Expertise: A keen eye for special occasion and evening wear trends, fabrics, fit, and styling for mature clients.
- Interpersonal & Communication: Exceptional listening skills and the ability to communicate clearly, empathetically, and persuasively with both the client and their family members.
- Sales Acumen: Proven ability to build rapport, effectively present products, and close sales respectfully.
- Patience & Poise: The ability to remain calm and professional while navigating emotional or high-pressure situations.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous in taking measurements for gown selection and ordering. noting all order details are correct.
