Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Geology Technician I shall work with other Geology Technicians, drillers and geologists at mine site to obtain and deliver consistent and accurate samples to the assay laboratory in a timely manner at Pinto Valley mine.
- Safety & Compliance: Demonstrate strong safety leadership by adhering to Capstone Copper safety standards, MSHA regulations, and site procedures. Maintain safe practices during sampling, core handling, warehouse work, and field activities.
- Sampling & Field Operations: Perform accurate blast-hole sampling using current procedures to support ore control and grade management. Conduct basic survey tasks for picking up and laying out blast holes. Identify and correct sample labeling or numbering errors to ensure data accuracy.
- Core Handling & Preparation: Execute core cutting, labeling, organization, and photographic documentation following geologic and safety protocols. Conduct density measurements and assist with sample preparation for assays and geotechnical evaluations.
- Sample Management & Logistics: Manage sample inventory and warehouse materials safely and efficiently. Ensure duplicate samples are correctly labeled and paired. Prepare and ship laboratory samples with complete and accurate documentation.
- Data Management & Reporting: Enter sampling, core, and field data into geologic databases with accuracy. Maintain organized digital and physical records supporting exploration, ore control, and production geology workflows.
- Operational Support & Field Assistance: Support geologists during drilling campaigns, field mapping, and production monitoring. Assist ore control and operations teams in grade control and material identification. Participate in a rotating roster schedule and perform additional duties as required.
- Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Soil or rock sampling experience.
- Experience operating mobile equipment (e.g., forklift).
- Ability to lift, handle, load, and stack sample bags up to 50 lbs.
- Experience performing equipment inspections.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office and acQuire.
- Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English.
Preferred
- Experience in drilling operations.
90% of the Geology Technician I’s time will be spent in the field while the remaining 10% will be spent in an office environment.
All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required. Capstone maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
