NewSat is seeking a Software Lead to support the design, development, and sustainment of interactive Computer-Based Training (CBT) modules for a cloud-based Satellite C2 system for the Space Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO). The software lead will have to develop training on the Satellite C2 applications and training on how to integrate new software into the system. The system architecture leverages AWS GovCloud, secure data flows, and modern DevSecOps practices. The Software Lead will oversee the technical development of training products, ensure compliance with DoD standards, and guide a cross-functional team of Instructional System Designers (ISDs), developers, and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality, secure, and engaging training solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical development of CBT training modules which include workflows for satellite ground systems.
- Collaborate with ISDs to implement Bloom’s Taxonomy-based learning objectives and ensure adherence to Instructional System Design (ISD) best practices.
- Develop technical storyboards for CBT modules, explaining how the the Satellite C2 System operates.
- Develop training on software development in accordance with the Government’s Information Assurance standards.
- Implement Agile/SAM iterative development cycles, including sprint planning, backlog management, and regular stakeholder reviews.
- Oversee version control, QA, and sustainment, ensuring timely updates within 30 days of system/software changes.
- Represent NewSat as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in design reviews, technical exchange meetings (TEMs), and sprint planning with the Government.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Instructional Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in a technical lead or supervisory role.
- Strong proficiency in AWS GovCloud, DevSecOps pipelines, Python, and networking principles
- Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity compliance, including secure coding and handling of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
- Strong communication skills to interface with government stakeholders, SMEs, and end users.
- Ability to travel occasionally to Kirtland AFB, NM for in-person reviews.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience with DoD or USSF training systems.
- Familiarity with DoD Satellite C2 systems.
- Background in game engine or simulation development (Unity, Unreal, or similar).
- TS security clearance w/ SCI eligibility preferred, but not required.
