Reports To: House Manager / Executive Director
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time / On-Call
Shifts: Days, Evenings, Overnight; Weekend
Location: Wheeling, IL

Position Summary
Sober Living Support Staff help maintain a safe, structured, and recovery-focused environment for residents living in our high intensity sober living home. This role provides accountability, guidance, and support to individuals in early recovery while ensuring that house policies are followed, and the home operates smoothly. Staff serve as positive role models and contribute to a stable, respectful community conducive to sobriety and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities
Resident Support & Accountability

  • Build supportive, professional relationships with residents.
  • Conduct resident check-ins and monitor adherence to house rules, curfews, and program guidelines.
  • Provide encouragement, resources, and referrals that support residents’ recovery goals.
  • Facilitate community-building interactions, group discussions, or house meetings as needed.
  • Demonstrate and guide residents in building daily living skills.

House Operations & Safety

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the home.
  • Oversee daily routines, chore assignments, and resident compliance with responsibilities.
  • Administer and document alcohol/drug screenings per program policy.
  • Conduct room inspections and ensure property rules are consistently enforced.
  • Transport clients to meetings, church, grocery store, sober outings and other approved places as pertains to program expectations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Crisis Response & Conflict Resolution

  • Address conflicts or concerns promptly using calm, professional, trauma-informed approaches.
  • Follow emergency and incident response protocols.
  • Communicate any safety concerns or resident issues to the House Manager/Executive Director.

Documentation & Communication

  • Complete daily logs, incident reports, attendance, and other required documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect resident privacy in compliance with policy.
  • Collaborate with other staff members and relevant community partners to ensure consistent support and expectations across shifts.

Professional Conduct

  • Model sober, responsible behavior and maintain healthy boundaries with residents.
  • Uphold program values and support a positive, inclusive, recovery-oriented environment.
  • Participate in training, staff meetings, and professional development as required.

Qualifications
Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and boundaries in a recovery-oriented setting.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to follow structured procedures.
  • Must possess valid Driver’s License in the state of IL (Motor Vehicle Report will be obtained by organization as part of pre-employment requirements).

Preferred

  • Experience in sober living, behavioral health, peer support, or residential programs.
  • Knowledge of addiction recovery principles, 12-step programs, or alternative recovery pathways.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Non-violent crisis intervention skills (will receive training upon orientation).
  • Individuals with lived recovery experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Working Conditions

  • Sober living home environment with possible evening, weekend, or overnight shifts.
  • May involve light cleaning, occasional lifting, or transporting residents if needed.
