Summary

Toyoda Gosei North America (headquartered in Troy, MI) has an opening for a Lead Customs Specialist in the Legal department. The Lead Customs Specialist functions with a high degree of autonomy and is responsible for providing professional level Import/export compliance support for Toyoda Gosei (TG) North America Corporation (TGNA) and TGNA Manufacturing Companies (AMCs).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Complete USMCA (or other FTA) assessments and surveys supporting OEM annual requirement submissions.
• Offer trade policy guidance to optimize production layout for new business growth planning.
• Maintain (or support development) internal systems related to trade policy reflecting latest environment condition.
• Interpret changepoints related to International Trade Policies and support TG NAMC impact assessment.
• Comprehensive product review of HTS (Harmonized Tariff Codes) ensuring accurate compliance is adhered to.
• Single point contact for TG NAMC support related to Customs evaluation, shipments, and related Trade Policies.
• Ensure (or support development) compliance and standardization of procedures for all Customs related activities.
• Examines classification and value of imported goods in order to support requirements for USMCA, AALA and CAFÉ.
• Confirms documentation according to import requirements, considering legal restrictions and country of origin.
• Determines duty and taxes to be paid on imported/exported goods, considering its classification and value.
• Issues or denies requests to release imported merchandise depending on importer's meeting legal requirements.
• Audit Customs entries to ensure accurate declaration of value, HTS classification, USMCA Certification, country of origin, and tariff code rules applied.
• Cross collaboration with TG NAMC and Customs Brokers ensuring policy, evaluation, and rules are followed.
• Create, update, maintain, and issue annual USMCA Certifications on file for Customs Brokers and OEM.
• Monitor and Oversee TG Customs continuous bond process and requirements (saturation, renewal, etc.)
• Support pre-production finished good HTS classification for TG products prior to start of mass production.
• Maintains standards for procedures and reporting, including valuation, classification and document retention.
• Function in a highly collaborative environment where flexibility and teamwork are crucial to individual success.
• Drive optimization by being actively engaged in continuous improvement efforts (kaizen)
• This role requires the completion of other duties as assigned
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Certifications and Education
• Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, International Business, Trade Compliance or related field is required, or equivalent years of relevant experience is required
Experience
• Minimum of 6-10 years of experience in Customs, Foreign Trade Compliance or relative function is required
• Prior experience with US Customs (CBP) process and tariff evaluation rules (RVC, TS, NC, etc.) related to auto parts/industry
