We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Protection and Control Engineer IV to join our team at K&A Engineering in Charlotte, NC In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations:
- Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise.
- Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.
- Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.
- Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity.
- Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures.
- Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
- Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
- They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied. - = 10-15 years discipline experience and a unique SME skill
What we’re looking for:
- A Bachelor's in Engineering and a PE is required for this role. Master's degree is not required, but preferred.
- Knowledge of wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Diagrams and schematics associated with DER site equipment are a plus. (relays, inverters, UPS systems, etc.)
- Familiarity with testing and commissioning of protective circuits using Omicron and Doble test sets
- Analyses and reporting of fault responses and breaker operations
- Experience with hands-on troubleshooting and evaluation of equipment failures to determine root-cause and necessary resolution actions
- Familiarity with microprocessor-based relaying
- Familiarity with relay protection schemes and relay logic
- Experience with relay settings calculations for protective relays associated with Inverter Based Resources
- Interpret and develop relay logic with microprocessor-based relays
Pay Range $45—$55/hour:
