AmeriCorps Position Description
Position Title/Type: Literacy Tutor
Term of Service: 1 year
Number of hours per week:
- Full Time Achieving 1700 hours: 35 to 40 per week
- Half Time Achieving 900 hours: 24 to 30 per week
- Mandatory weekend volunteer opportunities once a month
Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- Successfully pass a background screening
- You must commit to servicing one year from August 1st through July 31st of the following school year.
GENERAL DUTIES
Under the supervision and guidance of DCPS school staff, you will serve as a literacy tutor and role model in a Duval County Public School. You will be responsible for participating in community projects, receiving extensive ongoing training, and attending required workshops. Ensure that students with whom you are assigned increase their reading level by collaborating with classroom teachers, other school staff, and students. As an AmeriCorps Duval READS Member, you will be responsible for achieving the program's goals and objectives.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Serve as a one-on-one or small-group literacy tutor in an elementary or primary school for students in grades K-5.
- Communicate with the classroom teacher and Readhing Coach about the students' progress and needs
- Participate in a team with other AmeriCorps Members both within your assigned school and at other Duval County Schools.
- Provide community literacy resources and promote literacy through other community activities.s
- Participate in community projects designed and coordinated by the AmeriCorps Program Director, Coordinator, Site Manager, and other AmeriCorps members.
- Maintain Member service records and other reporting data, and submit these reports to the AmeriCorps Program Coordinator on Time.
- Participate in in-service training and Member development
- Document AmeriCorps activities and objectives by keeping records as needed for site students, off-site activities, etc.
