Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, active DHH teaching certification, and 1+ years Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
An exciting opportunity is available for a dedicated professional with expertise in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistance within a K-12 school setting. This contract position, located in Silver Spring, MD, offers the chance to support the academic and developmental success of students throughout the school year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction and support tailored to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across grades K-12
- Collaborate with educators, therapists, and families to design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Provide occupational therapy assistance under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist, helping students achieve functional goals in a school environment
- Utilize effective communication strategies, including sign language proficiency, to engage and support students
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional approaches as needed to meet diverse learning needs
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services and student outcomes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) with experience in a school setting
- Strong knowledge of Deaf culture, communication methods, and assistive technology
- Ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams effectively
- Excellent interpersonal skills and patience, with a passion for student-centered education
- Familiarity with IDEA regulations and special education compliance
