Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Chemical process engineer to oversee daily operations at our chemical manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemical engineering, process management, and hands-on experience in formulating, scaling, and producing polymers. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of chemical handling, process safety, and production optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead, supervise, and coordinate all aspects of plant operations related to polymer synthesis and chemical processing.
· Manage day-to-day plant activities including production scheduling, equipment maintenance, quality control, and personnel oversight.
· Monitor and optimize production processes for efficiency, yield, and quality, particularly in the manufacture of water-based, solvent-based, or specialty polymers.
· Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements, including proper chemical handling, storage, and disposal.
· Oversee raw material procurement and inventory control of monomers, catalysts, surfactants, solvents, and other chemicals.
· Work closely with R&D and QA teams to scale up lab-developed polymers to full-scale production.
· Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), batch sheets, and safety protocols.
· Train and mentor plant staff in chemical safety, operational procedures, and emergency response.
· Analyze data and implement continuous improvement strategies for process reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
· Manage capital improvement projects, plant expansions, and equipment upgrades.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Polymer Science.
· Minimum 5 years of experience in a chemical or polymer manufacturing plant, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
· Strong working knowledge of polymerization techniques (e.g., emulsion, suspension, solution, bulk).
· Familiarity with chemical process equipment (reactors, mixers, filtration units, etc.).
· Proficient in chemical handling protocols, hazard communication (GHS), and personal protective equipment (PPE) use.
· Experience with batch processing, process control systems (PLC/SCADA), and ISO/GMP standards is preferred.
· Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:
· Experience with waterborne acrylics, polyurethanes, styrene-butadiene, or specialty resin systems.
Work Environment:
· Manufacturing plant environment with regular exposure to chemicals, high temperatures, and production machinery.
· Must be able to wear required PPE and respond to emergencies when necessary.
