Position Summary
The Senior Engineering Manager – Hardware Development leads multidisciplinary teams delivering electronics and mechanical hardware for automotive applications from concept to production. You will set strategy, build high-performing teams, and drive execution – raising the bar on quality, manufacturability, cost, and timing. You will plan and communicate clearly, encourage innovation, and make data-drive decisions that keep programs on schedule while ensuring platform scalability and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead, coach, and grow managers and engineers; set goals, define roles, and cultivate an inclusive, high-ownership culture.
· Own the hardware roadmap and platform strategy – modularity, reuse, lifecycle – aligning with business objectives.
· Direct full product development: requirements, architecture, design, prototype, verification, validation, and release for electrical and mechanical hardware.
· Ensure robust engineering rigor with gate and sign-off process, including: design reviews, DFMEA, tolerance/stack-up, Design for Manufacturing/Assembly/Service, EMC/ESD considerations, etc.
· Drive execution with clear plans, risk/issue management, and disciplined change control (BOM, ECO, etc.)
· Partner cross-functionally with Systems, Software, Validation, Product, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality to hit cost, quality, and timing targets.
· Engage suppliers and manufacturing partners – negotiate interfaces, timelines, and deliverables.
· Drive DFMEA, DVP&R to ensure quality product development and release.
· Measure what matters – define KPIs (quality, reliability, schedule adherence) and act on the data.
· Continuously improve tools and processes to accelerate delivery and reduce defects.
· Drive critical issue resolution root cause analyses across entire hardware domain using structured problem solving methodologies: Fishbone Diagram, 5-Why, 8D, etc.
· Support Engineering to Manufacturing hand-off of designs, PPAP, etc.
Required Qualifications
· B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering, or related field.
· 10+ years of experience in hardware development, including electronic and mechanical systems with 3-5+ years leading large teams and complex programs.
· Strong foundation in electronics and electromechanical design (PCBs, analog, digital, power, harnessing, enclosures).
· Proficiency with CAD/CAE, PLM/PDM, configuration management, BOMs and ECO processes.
· Experience in partnering, driving, and managing vendors and suppliers, negotiating deliverables, requirements, scope, cost, timing, and release.
· Strong understanding of mechanical hardware development.
· Proven track record of managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and scaling development pipelines.
· Experience using Jira for planning, defect management, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
· M.S. in engineering or related field.
· Passion for automotive products and technologies.
· Understanding of Internal Combustion Engine fundamentals and engine management systems.
