Job Summary:
The Intern is responsible for the design and implementation of production systems and procedures used throughout the manufacturing process; tests and monitors all equipment, updates current system processes, and conducts risk assessments as applicable.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Trains employees on technical specifications and equipment functionality.
- Trains employees on tooling functionality and tooling safety.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Defines specifications and requirements for production processes and equipment for both new and existing business as well as engineering changes.
- Evaluates existing production processes for efficiency and implements continuous improvement ideas in conjunction with other departments.
- Conducts time studies and regular line balancing in cooperation with the production department and provides changing headcount assumptions to the management team.
- Designs, plans, and optimizes the layout of the production floor in conjunction with other departments and identifies opportunities for additional space, efficiency, and safety.
- Conducts root cause analysis for production incidents and participates in cross-functional teams to identify and implement measures of containment, corrective actions and preventive actions and assesses their effectiveness.
- Develops, implements, and monitors detailed work instructions for all processes on the production line including regular reviews and modifications in the event of engineering changes.
- Trains employees on technical specifications, equipment, and tooling functionality as well as tooling safety and reports concerns regarding employee training to the management team.
- Provides assistance to the production department including troubleshooting of assembly issues and assistance in identifying root causes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to draw conclusions from a variety of data sources.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks according to business objectives and the ability to pursue several objectives simultaneously.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Ability to think creatively and adapt to changing priorities while working independently with a high degree of self-direction and self-motivation.
- Strong active listening skills with the ability to process feedback from various hierarchy levels and departments in the Company and the ability to work in cross-functional teams to resolve incidents.
Education and Experience:
- Enrollment in a degree program for mechanical or industrial engineering.
- Intermediate computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to spend multiple hours a day standing and walking on the production floor.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
