Position: Field Engineer

Department: Project Management

Reports to: Assistant Project Manager/Project Manager

Secondary Reporting: Superintendent


Position Summary: The Construction Field Engineer supports construction project teams by managing and coordinating technical aspects on-site. This role ensures the proper implementation of design plans, compliance with specifications, accurate tracking and timely project completion. Responsibilities may vary from project to project, but the Field Engineer always works closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth construction operations. The following duties listed below are representative of the work to be completed in this role. Additional duties or support will be typical throughout the work to ensure success of the team as a whole.

Safety

  • Be an active participant in the Safety Program to ensure a positive safety culture throughout the site.
  • Attend all jobsite safety meetings, as well as completing task appropriate JSAs for work to be performed.
  • Alert on site Safety staff of any concerns immediately to ensure proper communication both for the site and company-wide.

Field Coordination

  • Understand and be familiar with all drawings, specifications, standard plans and models, as well as Watts Electrics scope of work. Utilize documents for identifying conflicts and scope gaps.
  • Identify field work changes and report them to Project Management for approval prior to completing out of scope work.
  • Work with jobsite Superintendent to generate short-term schedules and submit to the Assistant Project Manager/Project Manager
  • Collaborate with prime and other contractors on sequencing of work to prevent congestion in work areas. Communicate needs for ensuring efficiency of Watts Electrics scope of work.
  • Monitor field production regularly for schedule adherence and communicate any discrepancies.
  • Ensure all field personnel are utilizing the most up to date information including as-built drawings.
  • Provide technical guidance to field teams.
  • Attend all site meetings as assigned.

Material Procurement

  • Coordinate all field deliveries. Ensure the crews are maintaining neat and orderly storage areas to maximize efficiency.
  • Review material submittals and ensure delivered materials are in compliance with approved submittals.
  • Collect and submit all delivery documentation for stored material billings
  • Complete periodic review of material on site to ensure shortages do not delay production.

Job Costing

  • Collect and submit field installation quantity tracking at least daily to ensure up to date LCPR (Labor Cost Productivity Reporting) data.
  • Review LCPR for discrepancies from budget, investigate items not in alignment to evaluate for potential improvements and accuracy.

Management Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with designers and other contractors to resolve design or constructability issues.
  • Complete daily reporting and other required reporting promptly.
  • Assist Project Admin/Coordinator with field-related questions.
  • Work closely with Project Management in generation of RFIs, submittals and change orders.
  • Work with Project Manager and Field Supervisor to ensure all testing and quality reporting is completed in a timely fashion. This includes such items as GPC coordinate records, photo documentation, daily reporting, quality checklists, etc.

Education and or Experience

  1. Must possess a high-school diploma.
  2. Construction Technology Degree or Higher is Preferred or
  3. Minimum 5 Years experience completing related work
  4. Strong understanding of construction materials and methods.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit and stand for long periods of time; use hand to finger, talk and hear phone conversations and virtual conferences. The employee is regularly required to walk on uneven surfaces and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The position will be based at a construction site and will move as projects are completed. The noise level is usually quiet to moderate in the office, while regular exposure to site conditions will result in the employee being experiencing outside weather conditions; occasionally exposed to wet and or humid conditions. Moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the jobsite environment is usually moderate.

Other Requirements

  1. Project location has potential to change ability to travel out of town is necessary.
  2. A clean driving record including no DWI or major violations in the last two years in order to operate Company vehicles on trips to jobsites.
  3. Ability to clear a TSA or government background check to access secure and sensitive government areas.
