Mechanical Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer applies mechanical theory to design and specify HVAC systems and processes, complete energy code compliance documentation and energy analyses, and actively participate in coordination meetings with design team members and clients. This role also includes corresponding with vendors and contractors, performing site surveys, observing construction projects, editing specifications, and reviewing submittals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of HVAC systems and firm standards to design high-performing mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate clearances and fit for all MEPT systems in collaboration with multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Calculate HVAC load estimates for a variety of spaces, buildings, and processes.
  • Conduct site surveys and prepare reports, studies, and construction cost estimates.
  • Design air distribution systems including ductwork layouts, sizing, and diffuser selections.
  • Design hydronic, steam, and refrigeration systems including piping design, layout, and sizing.
  • Select central air handling units, terminal units, central plant equipment, and other major components.
  • Design and specify building automation and control systems.
  • Maintain active knowledge of Codes and Standards (International Building Code, International Mechanical Code, ASHRAE, NFPA).
  • Participate in continuing education to maintain professional licensure.
  • Utilize or continue developing proficiency in Revit for design documentation and coordination.
