We are seeking a highly skilled and reliable Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Assembly to support and advance the assembly of sheet metal control house buildings. This position will serve as the primary expert for assembly-related best practices, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives. In addition to providing hands-on technical support, the SME will play a critical role in mentoring team members, collaborating with the training department to develop effective training resources, and working closely with cross-functional teams to drive accuracy, efficiency, and safety across the production floor. This role will also occasionally fill in for Leads or Supervisors during vacations or absences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for sheet metal control house assembly processes.
  • Provide guidance and support to assemblers on layout, measuring, and marking dimensions and reference lines.
  • Recommend improvements to processes, tools, and workflows to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot complex assembly issues and identify root causes to reduce rework.
  • Onboard and train new assemblers on proper techniques, tool usage, and safety procedures.
  • Partner with the training team to help create or contribute to work instructions, SOPs, and visual aids.
  • Serve as a mentor and knowledge resource for the team, promoting skill development and cross-training.
  • Monitor and uphold high standards for assembly quality and accuracy.
  • Ensure consistent application of safety practices and PPE usage.
  • Support adherence to company and industry standards for fabrication and assembly.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production planning teams to ensure smooth workflows and timely delivery.
  • Identify and support opportunities for lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
  • Work to improve the overall quality and efficiency of the Assembly areas using metrics and other data points
  • Occasionally work in other areas of the plant to gain a broader understanding of the business
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing or assembly, with demonstrated expertise (required)
  • Prior experience in sheet metal fabrication and control house assembly (preferred)
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, drawings, and technical instructions
  • Welding and fabrication experience (a plus)
  • Forklift certification or experience (desired)
  • Ability to train and mentor others in a production setting
  • Comfortable working at heights and on ladders up to 10 feet
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and cleanliness
