Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in a group home setting. The DSP plays a vital role in assisting individuals with daily living skills, promoting independence, ensuring health and safety, and delivering person-centered care in compliance with DBHDD (Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities) standards and agency policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and supervision to individuals receiving services in a residential group home
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and meal preparation
- Support individuals in developing and maintaining independent living skills
- Implement and follow Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and behavior support plans
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of individuals at all times
- Administer medications as trained and authorized, following agency and DBHDD guidelines
- Accurately complete daily documentation, progress notes, and incident reports
- Transport individuals to appointments, activities, and community outings as required
- Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive home environment
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow required reporting procedures
- Uphold individuals’ rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality
- Maintain compliance with all DBHDD regulations, policies, and procedures
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass background check, and TB screening
- Ability to complete required DBHDD trainings (CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, etc.)
- Ability to lift, assist, and support individuals as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities
- Knowledge of DBHDD residential services standards
- Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate, patient, and dependable demeanor
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift as required by job duties
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts as needed
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in crisis situations
