Intermediate Field Tech – Conhagen

Job Summary
The Intermediate Field Tech supports Conhagen’s Field Services Department by assembling, installing, inspecting, and repairing rotating equipment at customer sites. This role performs hands-on mechanical work with limited supervision, provides basic guidance to novice field techs, and helps troubleshoot common mechanical issues while maintaining strong safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, dismantle, and inspect rotating equipment using verbal and written instructions.
  • Work with pumps, turbines, and related mechanical systems; perform basic repairs and component prep.
  • Read and interpret drawings, sketches, and technical documents.
  • Use precision measuring tools (indicators, verniers, calipers, micrometers) to measure to .0001 accuracy.
  • Conduct photo and visual inspections; correctly label and handle components for reassembly.
  • Perform basic non-destructive testing (as applicable).
  • Clean, organize, and properly store parts at customer locations.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and hoists (location-dependent).
  • Identify and report damaged equipment or unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas and follow all company, state, and federal HSE regulations.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, craft workers, and team members.
  • Suggest improvements to safety, efficiency, and processes.
  • Provide occasional guidance and support to junior field personnel.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.; able to obtain a TWIC card.
  • Strong commitment to safety and consistent safe work practices.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and able to work independently.
  • Minimum 3 years experience inspecting and repairing rotating equipment.
  • Basic mechanical skills and ability to interpret drawings/instructions.
  • Skilled with precision tools and common hand/electric tools.
  • Reliable time management, attendance, and communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Vocational training in mechanics, machining, welding, or related fields.
  • Electrical exposure a plus.
  • OSHA-30 and forklift certifications preferred.

Work Conditions

  • Work performed primarily at customer plants and shop environments (indoor/outdoor).
  • Frequent travel to customer sites; long periods of standing or stationary work.
  • Exposure to confined spaces and moderate noise.
  • PPE required (safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection).
  • Required monthly safety meetings and periodic recertification training.
  • Overtime may be required based on workload and location.
  • Conhagen provides uniforms, tool-purchase program, and mileage reimbursement (varies by location).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and equipment maneuvering.
  • Adequate near/far vision, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to safely move throughout shop or plant environments.
  • Self-motivated and able to follow company procedures and standards.
