About McHale & Associates
McHale & Associates is a performance engineering firm providing advanced testing, measurement, and diagnostic services to the power and renewable energy industries. Our technicians and engineers support field testing, calibration, and performance validation at gas, steam, and renewable power facilities worldwide.

About the Role
We are seeking a Field & Calibration Service Technician to support equipment installation, calibration, and data collection for solar performance testing, vibration diagnostics, and power plant performance measurements. This role offers hands-on experience with a variety of high-precision instruments and systems used in renewable and conventional energy environments.

You’ll work in the Knoxville calibration lab when not deployed and travel to field sites to support commissioning, testing, and instrumentation maintenance.

What You’ll Do

  • Install and maintain instrumentation for solar site performance testing, vibration monitoring, and power plant measurement systems.
  • Perform equipment calibration (pressure, temperature, electrical, vibration) to ensure measurement accuracy.
  • Support data collection and on-site testing under the direction of McHale engineers.
  • Troubleshoot sensors, cabling, and data acquisition systems (DAQ).
  • Configure and test transducers, flow instruments, and electrical interfaces.
  • Maintain calibration records and assist with lab QA/QC processes.
  • Work safely in industrial and solar environments, following site and McHale safety protocols.
  • Support logistics: equipment prep, shipping, and maintenance in the Knoxville warehouse.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical training in instrumentation, electrical, or mechanical systems preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical, pressure, temperature, or vibration measurement equipment.
  • Ability to calibrate and troubleshoot sensors and DAQs with supervision.
  • Proficiency with Windows tools (Excel, Word, basic networking, diagnostic software).
  • Valid U.S. passport and driver’s license.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, lift moderate weights, and work safely in industrial environments.
  • Availability for travel on short notice.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and customer service skills.

Preferred Extras

  • Familiarity with solar commissioning or field testing.
  • Experience using Fluke METTEAM / METCAL or equivalent calibration software.
  • Exposure to Bently Nevada, Emerson CSI, or other vibration monitoring equipment.
  • Basic understanding of P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and test schematics.
  • Experience with data loggers or DAQ systems (e.g., Campbell Scientific, Dewetron, or National Instruments).

Why McHale?

You’ll gain exposure to both renewable and conventional energy systems, learn advanced measurement techniques, and work alongside engineers solving complex performance challenges. McHale invests in training and certification so technicians can grow into senior calibration, vibration, or performance testing specialists.
