Reports To: Measurement Services Manager / Director of Measurement Services


Position Summary:

The Field and Calibration Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and data collection through the use of vibration monitoring equipment and performance testing equipment at power generation facilities worldwide. This position will report to the office in Knoxville, TN when not supporting onsite projects and shall support daily calibration and warehouse operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and field calibrate vibration monitoring and performance testing equipment with minimal supervision or assistance.
  • Work closely with Field Engineers to perform data collection at client site.
  • Utilizes Windows-based programs such as Excel, Word, and Internet Explorer, as well as email and proprietary diagnostic software, networking, and business management software.
  • Interact with customers in a professional, courteous, and relationship building manner.
  • Work closely with the Measurement Services team in the Knoxville office to maintain and calibrate equipment necessary for internal and external customers.

Requirements:

  • Must have experience operating vibration monitoring equipment and performing vibration monitoring tests. Experience with vibration monitoring at power generation facilities is a plus. Experience with Bently Nevada vibration equipment is a plus.
  • Must possess a valid US passport.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, utilize safety equipment and restraints, navigate safely through construction/industrial environments with varied temperature and noise levels, must be able to carry moderate weights for a distance and up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to properly use and maintain common hand tools and electrical safety testing equipment.
  • Must be available to travel on short notice and have no issues flying, renting vehicles, or driving distances.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – Beneficial but not required:

  • Knowledge of influences that may interfere with accurate pressure measurements (atmospheric conditions, water legs, instrument position, etc…).
  • Knowledge of RTD 4 wire measurement characteristics and thermocouple properties/types.
  • Knowledge of instruments required to obtain flow measurements from a precision orifice plate.
  • Able to read and understand plant P&IDs and three line electrical drawings.
  • Use of various handheld devices such as, DMMs, IR gun, Thermocouple readers, Power Quality Analyzers, etc…
  • Basic knowledge of the operation of gas turbine power plants, coal fired boilers and cooling towers.
  • Familiarity with Fluke METTEAM - METCAL – METCAL Editor and creating and/or editing automated calibration procedures.
  • Experience calibrating instruments in the following disciplines:
    • Vibration Monitoring Equipment
    • Electrical/RF (multimeters, power meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, signal generators)
    • Temperature (RTD’s, thermocouples, thermohygrometers)
    • Pressure (pressure transmitters, pressure gauges, manometers)
    • Dimensional, Mass, Flow, Torque/Force

Qualifications - Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with vibration monitoring equipment. Experience in repair, maintenance, calibration, and/or working in a power generation facility is a plus.
