Job DescriptionCLASSIFICATION: Mental Health Professional IVSALARY RANGE: $70,000- $106,513SUPERVISOR: Director of Nursing DEFINITION:This position supervises the Nurse Delegation program for Carastar Health, providing oversight of the MAC workers and MAS nurses and the medications for the residential group home facilities. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:Responsible for ensuring nurse delegation program complies with AL Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation Community Mental Health Standards, Mental Illness Community Service Contract Service Delivery Manual, Medicaid Provider Manual and any other applicable state and federal laws or regulations.Responsible for training and certification of the MAC workers in the residential and crisis inpatient facilities.Provide 24/7 coverage on-call for the nurse delegation program and arranging for coverage through the MAS certified LPNs and RNs.Monitor the group homes and acute care facilities to make sure that the medication storage, documentation, and administration are meeting standards.Ensure the nurse delegation program meets ADMH and nursing standards.Maintain all nurse delegation records as required.Ensure that staff maintain their training and certification status as required.Complete decertification paperwork when a MAC worker leaves the agency or no longer meets standards.Recommend any action needed for MAC workers who fail to meet standards or need additional training.Verify and approve residential menus monthly and as needed.Conduct assessment and review of consumer(s) prior to readmission to residential homes from the hospital.REQUIREMENTS:Ensure the MARS are accurate and prepared each month, checking the monthly medications for appropriate documentation and doctor’s orders.Complete RN Assessments and Nursing Care Plans for consumers admitted to the group home facilities per AL DMH/ABN requirements.Coordinate with the group home coordinators and Directors, physicians, and Residential/Clinical Supervisors regarding nurse delegation issues.Assist in evaluating the client's general medical and/or physical status.Provide emergency assessment regarding clients' medication and physical, mental, and behavioral health.Provide or arrange for training/instruction of employees or nursing students.Knowledge of principles, techniques, and standards of mental health nursing.Knowledge of individual and group behavior with emphasis on the problems of the mentally ill.Ensure that medications that are expired or discontinued are recorded on AL DMH/NDP Medication Destruction Forms and discarded per AL DMH/NDP and agency protocol.Knowledge of psychotropic drugs.Conduct monthly and as needed meetings with MACII MHT and MAS nurses; record the same meeting minutes and provide them to PI.Ensure all residential group homes maintain accurate records, Refrigerator log, MAC On-call log, Physician communications and any other records.Report all medications error to PI.Perform annual state required reporting.Ability to relate warmly to clients.Ability to recognize in clients any adverse reactions to medication.Ability to maintain a cooperative relationship among staff/health care sources by communicating, responding to requests, building rapport, participating in team problem-solving methods.QUALIFICATIONS:Be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama with at least two years of experience in mental health nursing, preferably in a psychiatric setting with decision making responsibilities and instructional training skills. Experience working independently with little supervision is desired. Must be MAS certified.Must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to Carastar’s Insurance carrier. Must maintain at least liability coverage on personal vehicles.Must maintain a current Therapeutic Options Training, CPI, Red Cross First Aid and CPR certificate.
