YOUR IMPACT
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Youth Sports Instructor is a year-round program serving youth 18 months - 10 years of age. Programs may include basketball, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, tumbling/cheer, and dance. The instructor is responsible for the development and implementation of youth sports curriculum and program sessions. The Youth Sports Instructor facilitates relationship-based, quality programs, sports leagues and instructional classes that deeply engage members in the YMCA. Staff will provide a quality experience to children and parents with focus on quality program operations.

EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Organizes, plans and delivers an inclusive curriculum of youth sports programs, clinics and classes for all members and participants at all ability levels.
  2. Instructs sports-related rules and procedures for the following sports: basketball, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, tumbling/cheer, and dance.
  3. Instruction of intermediate levels and above require more expert knowledge in skills, techniques, etc.
  4. Builds effective, authentic relationships with both student athletes and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  5. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures regarding but not limited to emergency and safety. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  6. Organizes and maintains needed class supplies and equipment. Reports damaged equipment promptly.
  7. Responsible for preparation of sports fields, gyms and courts, including quality checks to ensure safe facilities are provided to YMCA members and guests.
  8. Meets with supervisor twice per year. Attends and participates in bi-monthly staff meetings and training opportunities. Attends annual branch meeting.
  9. Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.
  10. Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
  11. Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Rock River Valley.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION: 1 Position

Position 1: Northeast Family YMCA

Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Tuesday 5:00 - 7:00 pm
Thursday 4:45 - 7:15 pm
$15.00 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum age of 16 years old
  • Background in athletics, sports or tumbling preferred
  • Experience working with children ages 18 months - 12 years in group settings (childcare, camps, youth programs, preschool, etc.)
  • Experience in organized play preferred
  • Ability to support children with varying needs and behaviors
  • Ability to display passion, enthusiasm and support for the mission and values of the YMCA
  • CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications required within 90 days
  • Current Praesidium Academy trainings
