Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A full-time opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support elementary students in Virginia Beach, VA. This contract position spans the school calendar year from January 5, 2026, to June 16, 2026, with the possibility of renewal for the 2026-2027 school year. The role involves serving elementary age students under Chesapeake Public Schools within a structured schedule from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clear and effective sign language interpretation services for elementary students in classroom settings.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to facilitate communication and support student success.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district policies and procedures.
- Utilize skills to meet the diverse communication needs of young learners.
- Manage caseload assignments as determined by the district.
Qualifications:
- Must possess Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification.
- EIPA score of 3.5 preferred; candidates with scores above 3.0 or QAS Score of 3 or higher will be considered.
- Experience working in educational settings, preferably with elementary-aged students.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interpret in various classroom contexts.
- Reliability and professionalism with a commitment to student-centered service.
