Location: La Plata, Maryland

Job Status: Hourly, Full Time

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to ensure the effective delivery of medical and psychiatric services within a behavioral health substance use treatment setting. This position assists medical providers, psychiatric nurse practitioners,and nurses with patient care activities, ensures timely completion of follow-ups and maintains organized workflow processes to support smooth clinical operations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Medical providers and Psychiatric NPs with assessments.

  • Record Vitals signs and weight for patients when needed.

  • Schedule and manage appointment scheduler and follow-up visits.

  • Collaborate with medical, nursing and administrative stuff to ensure smooth workflow.

  • Ensure Clinical documentation is up to date and submitted in accordance with payer requirements.

  • Act as a liaison within the medical department to promote collaboration and efficient workflow.

  • Keep record and track all follow-up appointments per medical recommendations.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information in compliance with HIPPA.

  • Update electronic health records with medical and psychiatric data accurately.

  • Work Closely with Multidisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.

  • Maintain Professionalism and empathy in all interactions with patients and staff.

  • Other duties as assigned


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program and/or Associates degree in Medical Assisting preferred

  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred

  • 1+ year(‘s) experience in a behavioral health or clinical setting preferred

  • 1+ year(‘s) experience in an inpatient/outpatient residential or acute care setting preferred

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, substance use disorder and mental health conditions

  • Ability to multi task and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to maintain professional boundaries

  • Competence in documenting in EMR systems and managing confidential information

  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and recovery-oriented care practices

  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively under pressure


Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday: 9am to 5:30pm


Compensation:

  • $21.50 per hour
