Job Title: Med-Surg RN Clinical Instructor
Job Type: Part-Time – 12 hours of instruction/week + 3 hours prep time/week
Reports To: Dean of Nursing
Position Summary:
Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing is seeking an experienced and dedicated Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Clinical Instructor to join our nursing education team. The Clinical Instructor will oversee the clinical education and performance of nursing students within medical-surgical units. This role focuses on developing clinical competence, promoting evidence-based practice, and fostering professional growth in a dynamic, acute care environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct supervision, instruction, and evaluation of nursing students or clinical staff during clinical rotations or orientation on Med-Surg units.
- Design and implement individualized learning plans and clinical objectives aligned with institutional goals and nursing education standards.
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for staff in the areas of assessment, care planning, patient education, medication administration, and documentation.
- Coordinate with nursing leaders and academic partners to ensure effective and compliant clinical education experiences.
- Facilitate skill labs, clinical simulations, and competency evaluations as part of staff onboarding and continuing education.
- Maintain detailed records of student progress, clinical hours, evaluations, and remediation as needed.
- Support quality and safety initiatives by modeling best practices in patient care, infection control, and documentation.
- Participate in curriculum development, clinical site evaluation, and interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance nursing practice.
Qualifications:
- Active and unrestricted RN license in CA.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s in Nursing (MSN) or Nursing Education preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years recent experience in an acute care medical-surgical setting.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); ACLS & PALS as required by the nursing staff specific to the unit of support.
Working Conditions:
- Clinical instruction takes place in acute care medical-surgical units, simulation labs, and classrooms.
- May include varying shifts to accommodate student schedules or staff training needs.
- Occasional travel between campus or clinical partner locations may be required.
